Igugu Outstanding In J & B Met
There was high emotion at Kenilworth on Saturday when the outstanding mare Igugu produced a champions performance to win the feature of the 2012 Sizzling Summer Season in the Cape, the R2.5m, Grade 1, The J & B Met (2000m).
Igugu, the winner of the Grade I Durban July over 2200m and the winner of nine of her previous 11 starts, had a preparation that has not been without difficulty for trainer Mike de Kock.
The mare had not run since December 4th when she won the Grade 2 Ipe Tombi Challenge Stakes over 1600m at Turffontein. Although she won that race in facile fashion by 5.25L, she then picked up a respiratory infection and missed a week of work.
