Quest To Start In Silver Slipper

Wednesday, 22 February 2012: Nediym's Quest will now debut in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill on March 3 after the promising colt was a late scratching from the Canonbury Stakes last Saturday.

Backed to win the Golden Slipper in the lead up to the Canonbury Stakes on Saturday, the planned debut for Nediym's Quest unravelled when the colt reared in the gates and was subsequently scratched on vet's advice.

Nediym's Quest following the incident was ordered to trial which he did successfully at Rosehill yesterday, winning by two lengths over 900m.

The General Nediym colt has now been cleared to race again with trainer David Pfieffer now suggesting the promising juvenile will make his anticipated debut in Rosehill's Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m).

“It was a little bit frustrating Saturday,” Pfieffer told Sky Sports Radio.

“Sometimes these horses don't do anything wrong at home or in barrier trials but when they get to raceday they get a bit excited and they can do a couple of little things wrong.

“We were forced to trial yesterday and he has come through that with flying colours so hopefully we can keep pushing forward.

“He is going to line up in the Silver Slipper so it will be very exciting for me and connections to see if he is up to the class and the quality of these early Slipper races and see if I can get my first runner in the Slipper.”

Nediym's Quest made his first public appearance at the Warwick Farm barrier trials on February 10 where the colt caught the eye when winning an 800m juvenile heat by 1.3 lengths in smart time.

Despite having not yet raced, Nediym's Quest is currently quoted at $26 with TAB Sportsbet to take out the Group 1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill on April 7.
